I am sad that it is almost time for the kids to head back to school. I love the summer months when they are home from school so we can create our own schedules. We stay up late, travel, and keep our days filled with fun activities. However, now is the time to start planning for back to school – which means getting organized. With school, sports, and extracurricular activities for four kids – life gets crazy. That's why I created this free printable chore chart!

With a large family living busy lifestyles, it is all hands on deck when it comes to keeping the house running. Our teens have the standard chores of keeping their rooms clean and helping with their own laundry, but being on the go means everyone has to chip in with the main household chores as well.

During the summer this can be accomplished by requiring the chores to be done before they are allowed to use wifi or play video games.  During the school year, it is not as easy. That's why I created a chore challenge for teens. This chore challenge chart allows me to list the chores that need to be done that day or week and place them on the refrigerator. It works as a first-come-first-serve method.

I love using Post-it® sticky notes for my organizing needs. I keep the 3×3 Post-it® Super Sticky Cube on my desk and love the back-to-school shopping time to stock up.

Post-it Notes Cube

I have gotten excited about buying school supplies at Walmart since I was a child myself. I love taking my kids shopping to pick out their new supplies each year and always stock up on my office supplies at the same time.

I use the 3×3 Post-it® Super Sticky Cube to make notes in my planner and for our family calendar. Did you know that written goals are 42% more likely to stick? I believe it. Which is why instead of telling my teens what chores I want them to accomplish, I write them down and make it a fun challenge.

write chores on Post-it Notes

Write the top six chores you need to be done on a sticky note. It does not matter what order you list them on the chore chart, simply stick them in the designated boxes.

add Post-it Notes to chore chart

Now hang it on your refrigerator and the real challenge starts. Depending on how many teens live in your home will determine how many chores each child must accomplish. The best part is the race that takes place between the kids. The first teen to do their first chore gets the first pick.

Who wouldn't want to be the first to finish their chore and fold towels over cleaning a toilet?

The only rule for this chore challenge is – you pick one chore at a time and must complete it before moving on to your second chore. Have sports after school? Then you may want to wake up a little earlier in the morning to unload the dishwasher so you aren't stuck dusting or cleaning the toilet that evening.

This chore challenge for teens sparks a little competition within the home to see who can do their chores first and correctly. Afterall, it must be mom-approved or redone.
